Dealing with Whatever Comes

"When you know that you’re capable of dealing with whatever comes, you have the only security the world has to offer." ~ Harry Browne

It’s not the stuff that happens that matters. It’s what you do with the stuff that happens that matters. Managing YOU through the stuff includes managing your energy, your emotions, managing your mind and managing your body. Have I told you that I think all managers should have coaching skills?

What if you coached you through the stuff that happens? Be coached and learn how to self-coach. http://www.joymadeeasy.com

Joy Made Easy starts November 17th. Don’t wait to reserve your spot! http://www.joymadeeasy.com

Reflection … Parenting … Gratitude

My poor little dude. Two of our fish died yesterday. We’re not sure why. Our little guy is 7, and he was so incredibly devastated. We were all sad yesterday. We don’t like to see our little guy so sad. I held him in my arms as he was overwhelmed with sobs.

Being a parent is one of the most rewarding and challenging jobs there is. What do you say when they are so sad? How do you explain that death is a natural part of life?

He told me he doesn’t like it when anything dies…even it it’s something that hurt him. When do they become conscious of what death is? He wanted to flush his fish when they died when he was 3.

All I could do is share that I understood, and it was OK for him to feel sad. Then I asked him if we should ask God to help his heart to feel better. He said yes, and a couple of minutes later he was quietly sitting in my arms.

*sigh*

It’s a reflective day today for me.

I’m grateful for my wonderful little angel who still needs mommy-hugs.

Conscious Observation: Upgrading my Label-Maker

It would seem to me that a great awareness I’ve moved into is that I can choose how I label things:  my thoughts, experiences, observations–basically everything.

It’s natural, as a human, to label. It’s how we catalogue the things we see, experience, think, etc., is with a label. It allows us to draw on the filing cabinet of our mind and pull information out and compare it to this new thing, thought or experience.

I am aware that my “label-maker” has some ready-made labels that have come about because of my experiences today. I am aware that I can choose differently.

I have been creating jewellery over the past few months. They have included crystal beads, and beads made of other materials. I’ve even created beads of my own as well. I’ve been creating bracelets, some necklaces and earrings.  I’ve enjoyed the creating, and the insights that have come with it.

With this creative expression, I’ve been experiencing it differently from what I experienced before. I’ve been more conscious about the feeling while creating. Rather than labelling the creation with the types of beads I was putting in there, I noticed my feelings as I was picking things up and putting them together on my beading board.

"Yes these feel good together. No, this isn’t quite right. That feels better."

Once the creation was complete, I would run up to my office and get my reference books out and look up the properties of the crystals. I was continuously amazed at how beautifully the crystals I had “felt” together actually fit beautifully together.

There were more powerful observations within this creative period as well. There were pieces that broke, or were lost. I was able to observe my reactions to these experiences as well. Within moments, the consciousness that arose was that I have the ability to create, un-create and create again. If something moved on from me, it was okay. There is always something new to create. My attachment to the “thing” diminished. It again was fascinating to observe this.

It makes me wonder, as I move through this series of conscious moments, the value in labelling according to feelings rather than my ready-made labels from my past experiences.

How can labelling things according to feeling change the experience?  What if I did this through other areas of my life?  How would the experience change?

Fascinating stuff.
