We all know that stuff happens. Unexpected things. Things that trigger emotions of all kinds.

The thing about it is, once the event has happened, we get to choose what we do with it.

Do we have a long conversation about what’s bad about this? Do we play the experience over and over in our mind? Do we make a comparison list of all the similar unhappy experiences?

These ways of handling unexpected experiences are learned. We learned by observing someone else who handled their experiences that way.

The issue with handling unexpected experiences this way is that it keeps us in the lower emotions.

There is another way.

When something unexpected happens, and once you get over the initial surprise of the event, you can choose another line of thinking.

What if you want on a mental journey looking for ways to finish this statement?

“What’s really cool about this is…”

For example, you loose a twenty dollar bill. Sure it sucks to be out that money, but what’s really cool about this is, that $20 is probably helping someone out who was in a real bind. What’s really cool about this is I probably really made someone’s day.

I remember a few years ago I was heading to the airport to catch an international flight. You’re supposed to be there a couple of hours early. I hit every kind of traffic jam or delay there could possibly be. I barely made it there before they closed the flight. What was really cool about that? The delays stopped the minute I walked into the airport. I went through every process quickly! Plus, because I got there at the last minute the only seats left were first class. I paid for an economy ticket, and flew first class…all because of the traffic jams. When I got to LA, guess which story I told? I certainly was not reliving the traffic jam. I was reliving the first class seat!

When you first begin playing this game, you may come up with (what you consider) lame answers, but that’s OK. You’re practicing. More often than not the lame answer still feel better than replaying what wasn’t cool.

Have you ever had the thought that you wish you could just turn your mind off? That’s because replaying what’s not quite right is NOT your natural state. Even your mind knows there’s a better way.

Our minds are one of the most powerful tools we have available. We just need to give it better information. It will only work with what we give it. That’s it. You choose the input. What didn’t work, or, what’s cool about what didn’t work.

Here’s another analogy for you. I you cook with rotten food, no matter how good of a cook you are, you’ll still be serving rotten food.

Give your mind something healthy to work with, and the output will be something healthy.

There are always cool things we can discover about anything. It can be a fun game to play, if you choose to look at it that way.

What’s cool about playing this game is that you’re taking charge of your own mind, and your own life. The events of living are no longer leading the way…you are!

Dream BIG!

Not that long ago someone posted an article of mine, What To Do When You Don’t Know What to Do. She had lost a lot of work through a computer issue, and was blue about it. In commenting to her I had said something along the lines of “Sometimes we need to loose who we think we are in order to become who we are truly meant to be.”

Today, someone hacked into one of my favourite Forums and deleted a number of profiles, including mine. Everything I have ever written there was lost. My forum posts. Blog posts. Friends. All of it. I completely disappeared!

They managed to recover my profile, but that’s it. I’ve been found, but I’m just a shell.

Or…

I’m an open vessel.

Really, with every single experience, we do have choices. We can walk around our situation and look at it from many angles. Are there angles that feel better? Are there angles with more information? Are there angles you can see/feel better from?

Certainly an “Open Vessel” feels much more appealing than “Just a Shell”.

In the big scheme of things, loosing my data from a forum is not really a tragic experience. I’ve had more life affecting experiences than that. BUT…it did happen.

What if I used this situation to serve me?

I am an Open Vessel. What shall I fill myself up with?

What are those things that bring me joy?

What are those things that give me a sense of purpose?

What are my values?

What kind of a Vessel am I? Do I hold certain things, and others pass on through?

Am I a clear vessel?

What Vibration am I tuned to?

After all, I am an Open Vessel. I get to choose!

What do you choose?

How do you know what is true? How do you know what is false?

How do you feel? That’s your truth speaking.

You know the difference. Do you listen?

“There are two ends to the spectrum. Fear is one end and it is false. Love is at the other end and it is all that is true.” ~ Premiere Edition (Prima) through Liz Mitten Ryan

Do you feel fearful, or at peace?

Some will argue that fear keeps you safe. Often, when our safety is in jeopardy, the decision to take us to safety is a quick and a peaceful one. It’s never, “the house is one fire. Should I stay or leave?” It’s a clean decision.

False Fear is not a clear and clean decision. False fear is usually filled with shoulds and negative what if’s.

Truth is filled with love and peace.

If you get a false fear, what do you do?

You don’t always see the truth right away. That’s okay! Simply know that the false fear is a sign post that this is not the correct direction.

From that place you can begin to ask questions, and as you open up and turn away from the false fears, the truth will show itself.

JOY Challenge:

I choose to take action from a place of love, not fear today.

Suggestion: A JOY Journal is a great place to ask those questions that come up when you don’t choose fear.
