Image via Wikipedia

Do you remember going to the swimming pool when you were a kid? Plug the nose, close your eyes and JUMP!

The first few times you may have walked away…I know I did. The next few times the knees were knocking but you were determined to do it, and did. It got easier and easier, so you moved onto the Diving Board, and then the High Diving Board.

Same thing goes for Life too. Sometimes we just have to hold our breath, close the eyes, and JUMP!

That’s what I’m doing!

Welcome Changes Radio is going to be off the air for 2 weeks as I head into Vegas to work with the same group that helped launch GREAT people and projects like Lisa Nichols and Chicken Soup for the Soul. It’s a GREAT opportunity I know I would regret deeply if I missed. So…I hold my breath, close my eyes and JUMP!

Going BIG takes courage. Going BIG takes determination. Going BIG means owing that Vision. It means moving from the back row of the theatre. Going forward row by row until your standing at the stairs of the Stage.

Is there something before you that requires courage? How bad to you want it? Is your determination being tested? Are you still in the back row watching your Vision, or are you making your way forward to it?

Dreams that never die are there for a reason. You are given the inspiration. It’s not random. It’s not there to create regret. It is not there for your Ego. It is there so you can be of service to the world.

Be Who You Are.

Deep Breath! Close Your Eyes! GO!

Dream BIG!

Today is, of course, Remembrance Day here in Canada. It’s Veteran’s Day in the US. I’m not entirely sure if there are other countries that share this holiday day.

I remember a lot of things about this day. It was my Great Grandma’s birthday. What a special gift for a little girl. If I remember correctly she was born in 1904, so she would have experienced both World Wars and more. She was given the gift of Armistice on her 14th birthday, only to have war break out again 21 years later.

I remember freezing while I stood outside on street corners of my home town in my Navy League Wrenettes uniform (yes I wore a skirt) selling Poppies.

I remember participating in the Ceremony at the Cenotaph to honour our fallen soldiers. My Dad gave me this small red case to hold that kept my hands warm.

I remember having coffee with some older gentlemen when I was in my early twenties. One of them fought in the war. He didn’t talk about it much. Only told me one sad story of when he was in France. That was enough.

I remember visiting the Museum of the Regiments in Calgary, and being overwhelmed as I looked at the lists of names who were lost in the various wars. They were someone’s son, brother, husband, father.

It’s easy to move into sorrow, and it’s important to move into Gratitude.

Thank you to all those men and women of courage. I am truly grateful to each and every one of you for the gift you gave of your life’s energy to serve the greater good.

Love,

Velma

Scarcity shows up in many forms.

It can show up in pricing our services too low.

“No one will hire me at THAT price, so I’ll price it down here. I need income…any income.”

It can show up in pricing our services too high as well.

“I’m not going to get very many customers, so I better keep the price up there so I get enough income.”

Sometimes we keep the price up there to prove we are not the value on our price sheet.

Scarcity may have us avoid sharing our gifts at all.

What IS going on? What is Scarcity?

People most often refer to it as “Lack Thinking”, which is a fairly accurate description. I want to offer you one more perspective, which is something I’ve observed in myself, in my clients, and in our culture.

Scarcity is a Fear of owning our gifts and value.

“I am enough.”

We are afraid of the consequences we have made up.

“What if I put myself out there and no one hires me? I’ll be so embarrassed!”

We are afraid of an illusion.

The way through Scarcity is Courage.

Have the courage to begin offering your talents and gifts, whether through services or creations.

Have the courage to put yourself out there…hang out your “Open for Business” sign.

Have the courage to receive equal value for your products or services.

Have the courage to see value in others’ products and services.

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” ~ Lao Tzu

What’s one thing you can do to begin offering your talents and gifts to the world?

Remember a moment when you did have courage, and you did make it through an experience…any experience. Remember that feeling. Bring it with you into this journey.

You ARE enough, and the world needs you, your talents and gifts.

I completed an exercise the other day. I asked myself a question, and then I sent out a request to friends and family asking them the same question.

What are 5 Strengths I have that you see in me?

I wrote four, and then after receiving a couple of responses to my email request, added two more.

Listening

Brainstorming

Looking for the Gift in experiences

Talking

Courage

Supportive

As I looked over these, I realized it was my Past that led me here. I would not be who I am were it not for the experiences I had.

It was the experiences that were challenging that created me, more so than the experiences that were joy-filled.

Challenge creates Wisdom.

Challenge creates life-changing (life-creating) decisions.

Challenge creates our Strengths.

The Joy-filled experiences serve a purpose too! They are the resting periods between the challenges. They rejuvenate us.

This is why it is so important to be skilled at finding JOY in your Now moments—the Every Day Joy.

Yes, I said skilled. It’s a skill you grow. It’s a skill you build on. It’s a skill you learn.

Over the years most people learn how to find the problems, what’s wrong, what’s not working. It’s something we picked up from observing others. We overheard the adults in our growing years, and it began with repeating what they said. Children often do this as the belief is they will receive approval from the adults if they repeat what the adults said. This is how the mind begins programming for problems and complaints.

The beauty in this awareness is it’s the same technique used to reprogram for JOY.

If you want to start this simple (not necessarily easy) process of reprogramming yourself for JOY, send out the same request I did. Ask your friends and family “What are 5 Strengths I have that you see in me?” Answer this question yourself too.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised with the answers you receive.

For me, this turned out to be another beautiful exercise in receiving. I couldn’t just pass off the gift my friends and family were giving me. They took the time, care and love to send me a thoughtful reply.

Your Past brought you here too—the Challenges and the Every Day Joys.

What are the Strengths you cultivated from your challenges?
